Finance for Development: Rapid Response Financing Instruments against Climate and Disaster Risks in the Pacific

Pacific governments are confronted with the critical challenge of securing access to immediate ex-ante financing mechanisms for emergency response in the aftermath of a disaster. Between 2013 and 2017, the World Bank Group (WBG) via the International Development Association’s (IDA) Crisis Response Window (CRW) provided approximately US$120 million to help Pacific countries respond to a range of natural disasters. IDA’s CRW has been an important source of financing the response to natural disasters, among other types of crises.
