[Event Recap] Disaster Risk Finance for Agriculture Knowledge Series - Webinar #3: The Role of Financial Market Solutions for Building Resilience to Shocks in Agriculture
The third webinar in the Strengthening Financial Resilience in Agriculture Knowledge Series took place virtually on May 26, 2021. It focused on discussing the role of financial market solutions for building resilience to shocks in agriculture. John Plevin (Financial Sector Specialist, Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation Global Practice, WBG) presented the key takeaways from the previous session and moderated the Q&A. Toshiaki Ono (Senior Financial Sector Specialist, Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation Global Practice, WBG) explained the concept of financial inclusion and introduced the various financial service providers in the context of agriculture. Rachel Sberro-Kessler (Financial Sector Specialist, Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation Global Practice, WBG) explained risk management financial solutions for farmers and credit risk reduction and financial protection for the agriculture sector. The speakers concluded the session by discussing the role of the government and examples of policy tools to support agriculture risk management, primarily partial credit guarantees and matching grants.
The webinar was facilitated by Kaavya Krishna (Senior Financial Sector Specialist, Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation, WBG), featuring live poll questions to understand the participants better and interact with the audience. The webinar had two Q&A sessions, which discussed various questions posed by the attendees during the registration and the live session. The virtual session brought together over 130 participants from client countries, international organizations, private sector companies, non-governmental organizations, and academia.
