[Event Recap] Deep Dive into Risk Finance Instruments: Macro and Meso-Level Risk Transfer for Agriculture (Webinar #7) | Knowledge Series on Strengthening Financial Resilience in Agriculture
The seventh webinar in the Strengthening Financial Resilience in Agriculture Knowledge Series took place virtually on December 1, 2021. The session discussed the role of macro and meso-level risk transfer solutions for agriculture, with focus on insurance products and credit guarantees. The seventh webinar built on the previous webinar which focused on micro-level risk transfer instruments. Qhelile Ndlovu (Financial Sector Specialist, Crisis and Disaster Risk Finance [CDRF], World Bank Group, [WBG]) provided an overview of meso and macro-level risk transfer solutions and discussed how different micro, meso, and macro index insurance products differ. The Webinar presented three case studies in the area of meso and macro-level risk transfer solutions. (1) Cristina Stefan (Disaster Risk Finance Specialist, WBG) presented a case study on meso insurance in the Democratic Republic of Congo. (2) Fatima Dicko (Financial Sector Specialist, CDRF, WBG) presented a case study on Burkina Faso’s credit guarantee options. (3) Malvern Chirume (Chief Underwriting Officer, African Risk Capacity Insurance Company Ltd) presented a case study on African Risk Capacity Insurance Company’s macro insurance product and key considerations in designing the sovereign macro product.
John Plevin (Financial Sector Specialist, CDRF, WBG), facilitated the webinar, and presented the key takeaways from the previous session.
