[Conference Recap] Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Conference: Actuaries in Development

On November 15, the Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance team, including Evie Calcutt (Financial Sector Specialist, Crisis and Disaster Risk Finance [CDRF], World Bank [WB]), John Plevin (Financial Sector Specialist, CDRF, WB), and Yiao Yu (Risk Finance Consultant, CDRF, WB), presented at the UK's Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' flagship annual general insurance event, the GIRO Conference, on their perspective of Disaster Risk Financing. Crisis and Disaster Risk Finance represents a novel practice area for actuaries. The session represents a great opportunity to advocate for the role of insurance and actuarial expertise and skills to achieve development goals. 

The GIRO conference attracts actuaries and insurance professions from leading organizations to share expertise and developments in the industry. The session was very well attended, with strong engagement from participants. The team hopes to see some of the audience contribute to Crisis and Disaster Risk Finance in the future, including greater engagement from international insurers and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. Click here to know more about the GIRO global conference.
